GRYPHON HOUSE is proud to announce Cynthia Simpson, assistant professor, program coordinator of special education and Gryphon House author, as the recipient of the 2008 Susan Phillips Gorin Award. The award honors a Council for Exceptional children (CEC) member who has demonstrated exemplary personal and professional qualities while making outstanding contributions to CEC and to exceptional children. Simpson’s latest book is Themes for Inclusive Classrooms: Lesson Plans for Every Learner, co-authored by Laverne Warner, Sharon Lynch and Diana Nabors. This book is for teachers who have typically developing young children ages 3-6, as well as children with special needs in their classrooms.

HAREBRAIN is proud to announce Rise, Inc. recognized Harebrain in Minneapolis as its 2007 Business Partner of the Year at the nonprofit agency’s special event, Celebrate Rise! held April 6 at the Earle Brown heritage Center in Brooklyn Center. Vice Presidents Jeff Waffensmith and Steve Swain accepted the award with 480 people in attendance. Harebrain manufactures the WhisperPhone, an acoustical voice-feedback headset that enables learners of all ages to focus and hear sounds more clearly as they learn to read, spell or process language aloud.

HOOKED ON PHONICS and its ad agency, Civic Entertainment Group & Engage Marketing, won a silver PMA REGGIE award in the National Consumer (Budget under $1 million) category for its HOP Across America campaign. The REGGIE Awards honor the “best of the best” in integrated marketing campaigns.

LEARNING TODAY, INC. announced that its Smart Tutor Reading program was recently awarded a best Educational Software Award (BESSIE) from the ComputED Learning Center in San Diego. The BESSIE Awards target innovative and content-rich programs and Websites that provide teachers and parents with the technology to foster educational excellence.
